AssoMENA ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your personal data when you use assomena.org.
This Privacy Policy also explains the legal bases on which we process personal data, when and why data may be shared, how long it may be retained, how international transfers are handled, and the rights available to individuals under applicable data-protection law, including General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) where applicable.
1.Who We Are
AssoMENA is a B2B platform connecting businesses across the MENA region. For privacy inquiries: info@assomena.org.
For the purposes of applicable data-protection legislation, AssoMENA will generally act as the data controller where it determines the purposes and means of processing personal data through the Platform. Where another organisation determines those purposes and means, that organisation may instead be the relevant controller.
Users acting for a company or other organization are responsible for ensuring that any personal data they submit about colleagues, representatives or third parties has been lawfully obtained and may lawfully be provided to AssoMENA.
2.Data We Collect
- Account data: name, email, phone, company details.
- Profile data: sector, country, website, social profiles.
- Usage data: pages visited, IP address, browser type.
- Communication data: messages sent via platform tools.
- Payment data: none at present — paid subscriptions are not yet available. Once offered, card details will be handled by the payment provider and never stored by us.
- Technical and device data, which may include device identifiers, operating system, language settings, login timestamps, security logs, approximate location derived from IP address, and similar diagnostic information.
- Business and professional information supplied for membership, networking, trade opportunities, enquiries, events or other Platform functions.
- Marketing and preference data, including newsletter choices, communication preferences, cookie choices and records of consent where consent is relied upon.
- Information contained in enquiries, complaints, support requests, event registrations, applications, forms or other communications submitted to us.
- Information received from publicly available sources, business partners, service providers or an organisation on whose behalf you use the Platform, where permitted by law.
We ask users not to submit special-category or highly sensitive personal data unless it is genuinely necessary and there is a lawful basis for doing so.
3.How We Use Your Data
- Provide and manage your account and company profile.
- Facilitate B2B connections, matchmaking, and trade opportunities.
- Process subscription payments.
- Send platform notifications and alerts.
- Improve the Platform through analytics.
- Comply with legal obligations.
- Authenticate users, administer subscriptions, provide customer support and maintain the security, integrity and availability of the Platform.
- Prevent, investigate and respond to fraud, misuse, unauthorised access, security incidents and breaches of our Terms.
- Manage events, enquiries, business introductions, professional networking and other services requested through the Platform.
- Send service-related and transactional communications that are necessary to administer an account or requested service.
- Where permitted by law, send relevant news, events, opportunities, or marketing communications; users may opt out of direct marketing at any time.
- Establish, exercise or defend legal claims and protect the rights, property and legitimate interests of AssoMENA, its users and third parties.
4.Legal Basis (GDPR)
Processing is based on contractual necessity, legitimate interest, consent, and legal obligation as applicable.
Depending on the processing activity, the applicable legal basis may include: (a) performance of a contract or steps requested before entering into a contract; (b) compliance with a legal obligation; (c) our legitimate interests or those of a third party, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms; and (d) your consent, where consent is required. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
5.Data Sharing
We do not sell your data. We may share with:
- Platform members: your public profile is visible to registered users.
- Service providers: hosting, email, analytics.
- Authorities: where required by law.
- Professional advisers, auditors, insurers and other advisers where reasonably necessary for legal, regulatory, risk-management or business purposes.
- A purchaser, investor, successor or other relevant party in connection with a proposed or completed restructuring, merger, acquisition, financing or transfer of all or part of AssoMENA's operations, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal safeguards.
- Other parties where you direct us to disclose information or where disclosure is otherwise permitted by applicable law.
Service providers are expected to process personal data only for authorized purposes and subject to appropriate contractual, confidentiality and security obligations.
6.International Transfers
Because AssoMENA facilitates cross-border business connections and may use service providers in different countries, personal data may be processed outside the country in which it was collected.
Where the GDPR or equivalent transfer restrictions apply, AssoMENA will use an appropriate transfer mechanism and safeguards required by applicable law, such as adequacy decisions, approved contractual clauses or another lawful basis.
7.Data Retention
We retain personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, including to provide services, maintain appropriate business and security records, comply with legal, accounting or regulatory obligations, resolve disputes and enforce agreements. Retention periods may vary according to the nature of the data, the relationship with the user and applicable legal requirements.
When personal data is no longer required, it will be deleted, anonymised or securely retained where deletion is not immediately possible, subject to applicable law and technical limitations.
8.Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure or access. No internet transmission or electronic storage system can, however, be guaranteed to be completely secure, and users are responsible for protecting their account credentials and notifying us promptly of suspected unauthorised access.
9.Your Rights
You may access, correct, delete, or restrict your data at any time. EU/EEA users may also exercise portability rights and lodge complaints with supervisory authorities.
Where applicable, you may also have the right to object to certain processing, withdraw consent, request information about processing and safeguards for international transfers, and not be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing where such a right applies. These rights may be subject to statutory conditions, limitations and exemptions.
Requests should be sent to privacy@assomena.org. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request and may retain a record of the request as required by law.
10.Marketing Communications
You may opt out of marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe mechanism provided in the communication, adjusting available account preferences, or contacting us. Opting out of marketing will not prevent us from sending essential service, security, account or transactional communications.
11.Cookies
We use cookies. See our Cookie Policy.
Non-essential cookies and similar technologies will be used only in accordance with applicable consent requirements. Cookie choices can be managed as described in the Cookie Policy and, where available, through the Platform's consent-management tool.
12.Third-Party Links and Services
The Platform may contain links to or integrations with third-party websites, platforms and services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. AssoMENA is not responsible for the privacy, security or content practices of independent third parties.
13.Children
The Platform is intended for business and professional users aged 18 or over and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek to collect personal data from children through the Platform.
14.Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect legal, regulatory, technical or operational developments. The revised version will be published on the Platform with an updated effective date. Where required by law, we will provide additional notice or seek renewed consent.
15.Contact
Questions, requests or complaints concerning this Privacy Policy or the processing of personal data may be sent to the above address. Users may also have the right to complain to the competent data-protection supervisory authority.
